Setting up Gmail on your iOS device is simple, even if you don't want to use the Gmail app. Follow these steps to access your Gmail account using the stock iOS email app.

Step 1: Go to your Settings app and choose Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Step 2: Under Accounts, tap Add Account, then tap the Google icon.

Step 3: Fill in your name, your Google Workspace address, your password, and a description of the new account.

Step 4: Choose which Gmail functions you want available on your phone. You can choose to sync your mail, contacts, calendars, and notes from your Google account onto your phone.

Note: If you choose to sync calendars or contacts, you will be asked what you want to do with calendars or contacts currently on your iPhone. Unless you want to delete this information, choose to keep it on your phone.

Troubleshooting

If you're getting connection errors, go to Gmail on your computer and check your IMAP settings.

Step 1: From Gmail, click the gear menu on the right hand side and select Settings.

Step 2: Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab. Check the Status: filed in the IMAP Access section. It should say "IMAP is enabled". If it does not, click the Enable IMAP radio option.

Step 3: Click Save Changes if you made any changes.
